Q. What is Holistic Nutrition?

A. By definition, holistic nutrition, and by expansion, a holistic health approach, strives to bring balance to all aspects of a human being: physical, mental and emotional. The holistic view sees the human body as a whole unit with intricate systems that depend on one another to operate optimally and efficiently. At a fundamental level, holistic nutrition focuses on the biochemistry of the human body, and recognizes the importance of creating balance where imbalances exist. Holistic nutrition uses various combinations of food and nutrients to help individuals achieve optimal mental, physical and emotional health. It can be used as a preventative health approach for the average person without any ailments or as a modality for healing or symptom management for people living with chronic illness or other medical conditions.

Food is the foundation of holistic nutrition. With an emphasis on quality ingredients, the holistic diet consists of organic, whole foods that are grown locally and enjoyed in-season. A key element of holistic eating is to incorporate foods that are nutrient-dense while avoiding foods that have been depleted of their nutrient content, such as processed foods or foods that have been degraded during growth and/or preparation.

Diet and nutrition have a profound impact on mental and physical health. The wrong food and lack of balanced nutrients can lead to many debilitating psychological and physical symptoms and degenerative health conditions. Holistic nutrition also recognizes the individuality of our human race. It takes into account a person’s heritage and biochemical individuality to formulate the optimal diet.

Q. Do you offer phone consultations?

A. Yes. There is no limit to your location. We offer our services to anyone wishing to better their health anywhere in Canada. Give us a call and we are happy to accommodate your needs.

Q. How long can I expect results from my Nutrition and Lifestyle Plan?

A. Your personal results are individual and will vary greatly from person to person. Because your lifestyle plan is tailored to your needs specifically, your success will depend on several factors such as how closely you follow your plan, if you follow-up within the recommended time and how engaged you are in throughout the process. The best successes that have been achieved are from clients that are the most dedicated to improving their health and following through with our plan.

Q. Are follow-ups really necessary?

A. We highly recommend that you follow up with Carrie after your initial consultation usually within 8-12 weeks and then every 6 months or so after that. Plans and protocols often recommend nutrients that should be adjusted from time to time. Client’s needs change and Carrie wants to see that you have the support you need to continue forward.  The greatest successes have been reported from those clients that have come back for maintenance and support!

Q. What is meant by “Cancer Coaching”?

A. In private coaching, we work with the patient and consider his or her specific diagnosis, medical treatments, nutrition, lifestyle, environment, psycho-social and emotional health. These are all factored to reduce side effects, encourage recovery and help to eliminate any recurrence of cancer down the road.

Private coaching involves a coach/client relationship for an entire year. Upon meeting your coach for the first time, he/she will spend some time with you to make you feel comfortable – allowing the two of you to get to know each other. You will be given the opportunity to ask every question you have about your cancer, in order to fully understand the how’s and why’s of it’s relationship to you. A full health history will be taken, and an outline of your diet and lifestyle will be requested. Before leaving, your coach will ask for copies of your pathology report, blood work, treatments and pharmaceuticals to date. A complete and personalized nutrition and lifestyle plan to encourage apoptosis, will be provided for you. Your plan will complement any surgery, chemotherapy or radiation you may be having. In addition, you may be provided medical options to enhance your treatments and/or recovery.

Q.  What is Raw or Living food?

A. Raw and living foods are uncooked fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and sprouted grains. There are also some other foods that fall within this category such as seaweeds, raw carob powder, cold pressed olive oil and certain spices and seasonings.Raw foods are energy giving and provide us with enzymes that are needed to sustain life. Whole, ripe, raw, organic foods in their natural state are what help to keep us healthy and vibrant.

Dehydrating is a common practice with raw foodies as it helps to preserve the foods valuable nutrients. Heating and cooking food, especially at high temperatures will destroy many healthful nutrients. Juicing is also very common and is a means to increase nutrients and enzymes in the body. This can be beneficial to those clients with compromised digestion.
