Legumes are a super healthy, protein rich food option and are among the oldest cultivated plants. Legumes are classified as a plant that splits it’s pod on both sides. Of common human foods, they include, beans, peas, lentils and peanuts. This category also includes alfalfa, clover, acacia and indigo.

    Legumes help improve liver function and lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and are also great for improving blood sugar control. Combine them with grains to form a complete protein food.

    One healthy serving, either cooked or sprouted is approximately 1/2 cup.
